  1. I ended up going with the ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX OC Edition. There is a slight bump in clock speed (1860 MHz) and the three fans it uses have nice reviews around the net. I looked hard at the Gigabyte G1 version, but the reviews that were poor all complained about the fan noise. I ended up finding a few videos comparing the various versions and the EVGA and ASUS seemed to be the top ones for my needs. Other cards were a smaller form factor or had more LED options, but i don't really care about those two things. From the numbers, i'll be getting a 4-6 time boost from my current card which should be nice; i'd be blow away with even 2x the performance.
  2. Not interested in VR and I was seriously thinking of the 1070 but thought to mention the 1080 in case I missed something big. The 1070 seems to be a great card for the price. I'd read the 1080 TI would be coming out in January, but i'm not really interested in dropping 1,000 for that card. I do game, but i'm no Tiger. LOL Lots of 1070 options. Had looked at ASUS because the clock speed was so much faster. http://thepcenthusiast.com/geforce-gtx-1070-compared-asus-evga-zotac-msi-gigabyte/
  3. So, i'm thinking of retiring my old gtx 690 video card and have been looking over the new GeForce GTX 1070 and 1080 cards. I'm leaning towards the 1070 for the price point. If you were buying one of these, which would it be? GTX 1070 - $400 GTX 1080 - $650
  4. I'm feeling the same thing, Nav. Played the beta and was happy to see a few of the old gang online but the game got old after doing about 30-40 rounds. I can't see spending that much for so little of a game.
  5. Well, i'm in the 30's level now and i'm starting to struggle with enjoying the game. The rush mode was fun the first few days but has turned into a sniper fest lately. 10 snipers on each side and you can't even run from point to point. Even the tanks are doing their version of sniping. Conquest is better but the tanks are so OP that it's hard to do much against them. You can shoot tanks from the air, but the damage that registers is minimal and by the time you turn around they have already repaired. Getting a squad on the ground that stick together is almost non-existant and i've only come across a few pubbers that have a mic from all the combined game time. So, i'll wait to see what the final game ends up being and hope things change.
  6. Thought i'm make an appearance from the dead and try this. Hopefully it will be a good game.
  7. So, BF1 and BF5 are coming out. I showed up so it must be a blue moon. All we need is Draino and we'll be getting the band back together!
  8. I forgot about that video. Poor Flip, lol.
  9. It's good to see some familiar faces on here. Hope everyone is well. Those were some good times back then! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-GBWRHVC8p5ZXdmNVNLZ3VMdTA/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-GBWRHVC8p5QVNCQlQzOExUX2M/view?usp=sharing
  10. There is a button to ask friends to join or create a lobby but it doesn't work. Soul confirmed it didn't work for him either. Again, some great ideas from the past just don't make it to these new games which is just sad. I do wish you had some type of knife or dog tags to encourage close combat. There isn't much to do when you get close in this game. Remember those good times Flip and Rad? https://www.dropbox.com/s/r3v72zix5xfmksg/Flipshot.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/yhs6f9k6mgfpjyr/Radpack.jpg?dl=0
  11. Played for 5 hours today and learned a lot. So, here are my thoughts from the day of release: Pros: The graphics are extremely impressive even on my older vid card Considering it's a beta, the game played smoothly and I never crashed one. That's an improvement from the past few Battlefield games Nvidia released a new driver to help this game but I played on the older driver and it ran fine. Updating isn't required which is nice compared to other games being unplayable on release. Cons: Similar to the release of Battlefield 3, there isn't an option to browse for servers, find friends, and squad up. They had that fixed about 2 months later with BF but I wish they would have learned something from that experience. I did find you could get on the same server as friends but you need to be friends in Origin, right click there and join game. Still, there is no way to switch teams, or change squads which is a total oversight. The first few hours you'll run around in circles on multiplayer. There is lots of action going on which is great, but the tutorial of the game teaches you nothing about how to play other then some quick shooting of bad guys for 5 minutes. Yes, the tutorial (solo player) is useless. Proximity chat. I've been asking for this since they last used it in BF 2142. It was extremely helpful to yell to the next squad, not to mention your own, to watch the right for a sniper. It made the game come together much better and encouraged teamwork more then any other option. And sadly, it's missing from another EA game. The insight the game developers had to let the empire park a small AT-AT on a rebel respawn is mind blowing. Just finished a game where one guy had over a hundred kills and killed the server since everyone left mad. Some limits of where the hardware can go is needed. Overall, id say to give it a try. It's free to play for the next few days, just don't tell Draino as we don't need "that guy" around here.
  12. I have to admit (yes, i'm not dead yet) that this game does look pretty nice. If those are the actual graphics on a PS then our PC's should push better graphics then that. Since it's using the Frostbite engine hopefully it will keep a destructible environment. Guess we'll see how it plays out as we get closer to the Nov release date. Hopefully it won't be a GTV5 release model where the PC is basically forgotten for a full year. http://starwars.ea.com/starwars/battlefront
  13. If you ever played the old Doom games (old school here) you'll love this. I am surprised how much i'm enjoying the game with this new mod. It's definitely worth looking in to http://www.moddb.com/mods/brutal-doom
  14. What?!?! It's funny, haven't been to the website in months and i jump on and see this. That's why I love you guys Pill and PowerGlove are the main Planetside players now days. I've moved on to Borderlands, Firefall, and Brutal Doom.
